‘The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor’, the sequel to ‘The Mummy’ and ‘The Mummy Returns’ an adventure Hollywood movie directed by Rob Cohen was released on August 1, 2008 in the United States. Despite being not well appreciated by critics this Mummy movie managed an earning of gross $400 million dollars, that is a creditable amount for a Hollywood movie.

According to some critical reviews and appraisals, the plot of this movie was considered quite light than the two earlier Mummy movies. Plot of the movie follows as Rick O’Connell’s (Brendan Fraser) son Alex (Luke Ford) discovers the tomb of The First Emperor of China, Emperor Han (Jet Li). This leads Rick and his wife Evelyn (Maria Bello) to travel to China, where an evil General causes the rebirth of The Emperor. After being resurrected Emperor tries to release her of an ancient curse imposed on him by the witch Zi Yuan (Michelle Yeoh). His liberation from the curse was capable of bringing his army back to life to conquer the world. However Rick and Alex fail him by killing him in the end of the movie.

The film was featured and shot at Mel’s Cite du Cinema in Montreal. The most exciting shots of the movie the Eye of Shangri- La was supervised by production designer Nigel Phelps. Visual effects for the movie was perfected by two Los Angeles based VFX houses. Rhythm and Hues Studios caricatured yetis and dragons, while Digital Domain took care of battle scene of Jet Li’s terracotta warriors. And burden of the music was shared by veteran composer Randy Edelman. Soundtrack of the movie included different Chinese and Middle Eastern ethnic instruments along with classic British folklore.

The film premiered in Los Angeles on July 27, 2008 along with Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. It had a wide opening in nearly 3,760 theatres in North America on 1st August 2008. It had a great opening day as it opened earning $ 15.2 million. However, for, initial weeks it lagged behind The Dark Knight. Though in an International arena movie opened at first position in 26 of the 28 released markets over the weekend. Movie final managed to earn $401,126,425 World Wide.
